This was written for a step-daughter’s wedding.
May any couple who choose to use the song be richly blessed throughout their married lives.
Father, give
your love
and build it in these your servants,
and build it in these your servants,
Guide them to
share love every day:
Create in each
an affection
Reflecting your
love,
Generous beyond
the world’s way.
Jesus, give your
peace
And grow it in these
your servants,
Hold it in their
home every day;
May it flow outwards
To those they
encounter
As witness that
peace is your way.
Spirit, give
your joy
And spread it
through these your servants,
help them be joyful every day;
help them be joyful every day;
With love and
peace, may
Their joy be in
great abundance
As they build
life in your way.
Original Introduction
Weddings are perhaps the most joyful of the rites of passage of the human race. Christian weddings have the added value of having a spiritual as well as a civic/social element.Here, at the beginning of Summer in the northern hemisphere and, therefore, a time that sees an upsurge in weddings, is a Wedding Song which is soundly Trinitarian in form, welcoming Father, Son and Holy Spirit into the marriage relationship.
This can also be sung as an all-purpose worship song: in which case, the words can be changed as follows
Father, give your love
and build it in us your servants,
and build it in us your servants,
Guide us to share love every day:
Create in us an affection
Reflecting your love,
Generous beyond the world’s way.
Jesus, give your peace
And grow it in us your servants,
Hold it in our homes every day;
May it flow outwards
To those we encounter
As witness that peace is your way.
Spirit, give your joy
And spread it through us your servants,
help us be joyful every day;
help us be joyful every day;
With love and peace, may
Our joy be in great abundance
As we build life in your way.
