The sun comes up to run its daily circuit;
It gives the light to bathe this radiant
earth,
A world, that fills our eyes with vivid colours,
Commingled hues released by death and
birth.
As darkness falls, dusk’s interlude enfolds
us
When wand’ring planets grace the evening
air;
Though light and heat are shared by these
our neighbours,
Yet only here, it seems, holds life, full
fair.
Now stars blaze forth to tell creation’s
hist’ry,
Sextilliard* stars, with clouds of surging
haze,
And planets dance in myriad-angled orbits,
To play their part on God’s nocturnal
stage.
So light and dark each tell their diff’rent
stories;
Vast knowledge drawn from daytime and from
night.
And everywhere the universe rejoices
To show the depth and breadth of God’s
great might.
* Sextilliard = 1039
