From this tiny cosmic orb,
from this, the visited planet,
circumpolar stars
invite contemplation
of the centrality
of the universe:
invite reflection
on the whole encompassing
of all we know,
of all we see,
of all we cannot see;
and on those vast, vast
incomprehensible tracts
we may never know.
Of course,
the true centrality
is not Polaris,
nor her partner,
for they are other globes,
different in scale and mass
to our centre star
but likewise, gas,
pivotal only
from our unique ellipse.
Surely it makes sense
to believe that,
rather than gaseous happenchance
at the heart of all this wonder,
there is a
living, vital, loving,
creative Deity
who holds forever,
the delicate balance
of the universal totality
counterpoised with eternity.
