O, dare I gaze upon the cross
where hangs the only perfect man,
in whom the sin of all the world
is cruelly gathered? Yes, I can!
I dare to gaze on him, my God,
because from all that agony
the radiance of his supreme love
embraces all. Yes! Even me.
And as I gaze, I know my sin
is swept into that broken man;
so I can leave that awful place
unburdened, joyful. Yes I can!
