Revelation
The sunlight on the garden
Dithers and grows cold
As evening clouds, opaque as jet
Gather and unfold
Their billowing skirts
To haste the end
Of a ‘til then muggy day
And weary mammals limpidly wend
To holes ahead of the rain.
Then just when the storm
Seems poised to attack,
In the west, an opal bar
Flashes out from beneath the black
To reveal the evening star.
