On Drawing Apart

As many resume work after vacations, it may be a moment to consider setting some time aside in the next few weeks/ months for restorative purposes and/or to get to know God a little better.

On Drawing Apart
Time is not of the essence here:
an altogether gentler rhythm
bathes the foundations of this special place.
Prayers of worshippers and seekers join together,
to hallow the time, to sanctify the space.

To reach a new awareness, born of silence:
deep silence, lent by calm light-years
that separate the roiling din of re-creation
from supernovae, crushing distant spheres.
And from these contrasts, life, death, resurrection,
may fall from each of us some unexpected tears.

Search deep: God’s likely in the weeping,
in both the joy and residues of pain:
His Son, the Christ, the Visitor-Creator
embraces you – and maybe that is why you came.
