Living With Integrity

It's a struggle, isn’t it? To try and ensure all our decisions are the best they can be in moral and ethical terms. And what happens time and again, if this is our aim, is that we discover more and more complexity about the decisions we make.

For this reason, we hold breakfast meetings in our villagesonce every other month to discuss such issues. Occasionally we invite a local expert to come and share thoughts with us but more often we simply pool what information we can collectively glean on a topic to see if that helps. Sometimes our thinking gets to the stage where we feel it is worth sharing with others so we may organize an event to draw attention to it. Given this brief description, it will not be a surprise to hear that we have run a number of Fairtrade events and at our most recent meeting this past weekend we committed ourselves to producing a simple pamphlet entitled ‘Let’s Be Foodwise’ which stemmed out of a discussion on the enormous scandal of Food waste at so many different levels.

 Our purpose is to

·      Provide opportunities for discussion on issues where we can promote justice and environmental concerns.

·      Seek to understand how we might respond responsibly to such issues

·      Offer these ideas to our communities

As chair of the group, I can say that this is the most energetic discussion forum, I have ever chaired – and in my professional past, I have chaired a great number. I would definitely commend the idea to others
