Back at Launde Abbey last week, somewhat unexpectedly. When we visited for the Advent Retreat at the end of November, Pam, my wife, discovered that there was to be a Quilting and Fabrics retreat during last week, then although the retreat was full then, Pam was later was told she could have a place.
The team at Launde were kind enough to let me spend the few days to have time and space to do some writing and thinking. It was a real gift.
During the time, I took a walk around the grounds on a windy day and witnessed a moment of surprise which is the theme of the following few lines which I hope you might enjoy.
In a way it is a companion to ‘Glorious November Day’ posted in November and accessible HERE. Different season: same delightful countryside.
Sunny, Windy, Chilly, Springy day.
Sunny, windy, chilly, Springy day.
On a whim, a gust
catches up a single leaf
from the tens of thousands
of crisp, brown relics
of the year just passed.
It is gaily tossed a giddy metre high,
twists in liberated rapture,
falls, rises afresh, pirouettes,
celebrating its moments of chosen-ness.
The gust has moved on,
leaving me with a memory of delight:
a gift of a sunny, windy, chilly, Springy day.
Snowdrops applaud
and I give thanks.
